Academic Excellence at Suikerbos Primary
Suikerbos Primary follows the CAPS curriculum as prescribed by the Department of Education. However, it is not only what we teach, but how we teach it that distinguishes Suikerbos Primary as a school of academic excellence and a preferred choice for learners preparing to enter Gauteng’s top high schools.
We believe that academic development is the fuel that propels young minds beyond the boundaries of a prescribed curriculum – towards innovation, curiosity, and discovery. At Suikerbos, we also understand the importance of balance. That’s why we make room in the school day for fun and creativity, because when learning is joyful, the result is confident, imaginative learners ready to plant their flags on the academic moon and beyond.
Extended Curriculum
Music at Suikerbos Primary
At Suikerbos Primary, we believe in the power of music to enrich, inspire, and develop young minds. Music education is an integral part of our curriculum, and all learners from Grade R to Grade 7 participate in structured music lessons during school hours.
Our music classes are designed to nurture a love for music while building a strong foundation in rhythm, melody, and musical expression. Through singing, movement, basic instrument exploration, and music theory, learners develop creativity, coordination, listening skills, and confidence.
Our goal is to cultivate a lifelong appreciation for music and to develop the musical potential in every learner in a fun, engaging, and supportive environment.
Reading Rocket: Computerised Reading Classes
At Suikerbos Primary, we are committed to laying a strong literacy foundation for all our learners. As part of our innovative academic support programme, we proudly offer Reading Rocket – a computerised reading intervention designed to boost reading confidence, comprehension, and fluency.
Reading Rocket is a dynamic, technology-based programme that combines engaging content with proven literacy strategies. It adapts to each learner’s individual reading level, offering tailored exercises that help improve vocabulary, phonics, reading speed, and understanding. The programme is interactive and fun, helping learners stay motivated as they progress at their own pace.
Classes take place in a dedicated, well-equipped computer lab under the guidance of trained staff. Regular assessments allow us to monitor progress and adjust the learning path to ensure each learner achieves their full reading potential.
By incorporating Reading Rocket into our school day, we aim to foster a lifelong love for reading and give our learners the tools they need to succeed across all subjects.
Academic Enrichment: Expo, Olympiads and Spelling Bee
At Suikerbos Primary, we actively encourage academic excellence through participation in a variety of enrichment opportunities. Our learners take part in the Eskom Science Expo, the Subject Olympiad and Spelling Bee. These platforms provide valuable opportunities to extend their knowledge, showcase their talents, and engage in critical thinking beyond the classroom.
